Over $15,000 Raised for the Animals

September 13, 2010

Last Thursday, on September 9th, the Skogman Companies sponsored the first annual golf event, Drives for Lives, to benefit the Cedar Valley Humane Society.  It was a perfect day for golf with temperatures in the 70′s and a light breeze.  We had 20 groups show up at Hunter’s Ridge Golf Course to support the cause and to squeeze in one last golf outing before the winter.  There were adoptable pets there to greet the golfers along with Oakland A’s outfielder Ryan Sweeney and his boxer pup, signing autographs.

After the golf, participants bid on a number of silent auction items, enjoyed chair massages, dinner and prizes were handed out to the winners.  In the end, over $15,000 was raised for the Cedar Valley Humane Society that will go to help the homeless animals.  It was a great event for a great cause and we thank everyone who donated, participated and volunteered for the event!

Grant Wood Window, at Cedar Rapids Museum of Art

Part of Grant Wood's sketch for the stained glass window at Veterans Memorial Building

Last week we went on a tour of the Riley Collection: From Monet to Picasso at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art.  We had a group of about 35 agents, management and staff that went on the tour.  There were pieces from many different artists in the collection, some that were well known and others that I had never heard of.    There were pieces from Monet and Picasso, to Salvador Dali, Marvin Cone and Renoir.  It was interesting to see pieces from different time periods and from different parts of the world all in one collection.

Once we finished touring the Riley Collection we went upstairs to see the Grant Wood Window Drawings.   When we walked into the gallery we saw a massive 24 foot high by 20 foot wide drawing lying on the floor.  These are the actual drawings used for the fabrication of the stained glass window in the Veterans Memorial building.  Wood took these drawings to Munich, Germany to oversee the fabrication of the window.  These drawings, when all put together, are the actual size of the window that was almost destroyed during the flood.

Overall it was a great experience and with Free Summer admission going on until September 19th, there is plenty of time to check it out.

Best of the Corridor 2010

CBJ Magazine Cover

For the past five years the Corridor Business Journal has been doing a Best of the Corridor survey.  CBJ subscribers were asked to vote for the people and companies they deemed the best in 50 different categories designed to hit several area business sectors.

Skogman Realty was voted ‘Best Real Estate Management Company’ in the Corridor for the second time.  We are thrilled that the public and fellow business owners feel that we are doing a good job and serving our clients well.

In the write up, which ran in the July 19-25 issue, President Chris Skogman talks about how Skogman Realty doesn’t buy into the old adage in the real estate industry, that a company’s most important assets are their homes for sale or their listing inventory.  Chris says, at Skogman, the most important assets are the agents.  “The one thing that can’t be copied is the quality of the agent that works here.  So we’re constantly striving to have the hardest working and most highly respected people working with us.”  This couldn’t be more true.   Skogman has an amazing group of agents and with them comes the listings.

Thank you to all of our agents and employees for making Skogman the Best in the Corridor.
